This is a genuine, original, NOT A REPRODUCTION, book plate LX, circa 1878, that includes the American or Whistling Swan, Marsh Tern, Ross' Gull, and the Buffalo-headed Duck. This fine, original Chromolithograph book plate came from Jacob H Studers Popular Ornithology The Birds of North America, illustrated by Theodore Jasper. The plate is in very good condition for its age. The brown line on the top margin is where the protective tissue paper covering the book plate was attached. It is usually matted out and does not detract from framing the print.
